Week 4

I have just completed my fourth week in my distance learning tools class. We have just begun to evaluate the mini-workshops on distance learning tools created by different members of the class. I think these mini-workshops are of great benefit as I am learning a lot so far. I was awakened to some applications of the blog in an educational setting that I hadn't really thought of before. I always viewed the blog as just an online journal that may contain some useful links or messages, but not much more. I learned that the blog can be a place for multimedia applications, polls, and educational games to enhance student learning. In my school district, all personal web sites have been removed, and each teacher is encouraged to create their own blog. I can now see why, as blogs are so much more interactive than merely a page containing static information. I'm excited to see what new uses for technology I will learn about in the following weeks.
